What is it?
Formed
In 1934 by enthusiasts in the NW London and Middlesex area, and now
with members throughout the Home Counties, Harrow is the club which
has close links with the Moss family. Sir Stirling's parents were
active members and Stirling himself began his motorsport career by
competing in a Harrow CC trial in 1947. His sister and works driver
Pat Moss-Carlsson regularly competed in Harrow CC rallies in the
1960s. Other famous names who began their motorsport with HCC include
racers Gerry Marshall, Dave Brodie and Steve Soper, and British
Leyland works rally driver Brian Culcheth. Current Harrow members
include champions in sprints, road rallying and autotests, successful
club racers and members who have served on MSA committees,
all
of whom can pass on experience to younger drivers.
What does it do?
Harrow
organises sprints at North Weald and a Southern Championship autotest
at Bovingdon, Hertfordshire; the Club enters a team in the Birkett
Six-Hour Relay Race at Silverstone and has competitors in the Eight
Clubs races. Members can take part in all types of events within the
London Counties, Central Southern, Eastern and South Eastern regional
associations. Social activities include treasure hunts and attendance
at classic car shows.
Aims
To
continue to provide low-cost motorsport in a friendly atmosphere,
especially for members using road cars, and encourage participaton in
a wide variety of events, both competitive and social.
To the Secretary
Harrow Car Club
Whilst going through some old family possessions, I came across a copy of 'The Register' for May 1955. Would you like to have it? It must have belonged to my father, Oliver Bertram, who I see was a Vice-President of the Club.
Yours faithfully,
James Bertram
